IRC

IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It's a protocol for connecting a bunch of users together so that they may hold online chat conversations. To connect to an IRC server you need an IRC client an and internet connection. Here are some commonly used IRC clients.

ChatZilla - A chat client that comes with the mozilla suite.
mIRC - Probably the most common IRC client.
X-Chat - A multiplatform IRC client.

There are many more too, so you might want to do some research on clients. My personal favorite is X-Chat.

After you've downloaded your client, you have to connectect to an irc network. There are many different IRC networks. The channel that GunBound Community has is on the Gamesurge Network. Connecting is different with each client, but it's usually as simple as typing /server irc.gamesurge.net 6667. Once connected, to join the GunBound Communites channel type /join #TheGamingForums.

Within an IRC channel, there are different userlevels.

Ops: Channel Operators. These are the people in charge of the channel. They have the ability to kick or ban people in the channel. They are usually denoted with an @ in front of their name.

Peons: Peons are the lowest level of registered user. They still have the ability to do such actions as setting an infoline and stuff like that. To become a peon, you must get an Op to add you.

Basic commands:
/nick [desired nick] - Chage your nick to [desired nick], the nick `b]can't have spaces[/b].
/join #[chanel name] - Join the desired chanel (ie: /join #thegamingforums takes you to the GBB chat).
/quit [message] - disconnects you from IRC and shows the [message].
/part #[chanel name] - Leave the [channel name] without quitting.
!setinfo [message] - Every time you log in, your infoline will be shown. Can only be used by Peons and Ops.

So... come out and join us yo. We're always glad to have new members.
